ourSLO.com - our Second Level Opinion NEWS & INFO Links

On this page we present more than 100 (and growing) worthwhile news and information sources. Our impression is that most of these sources have journalistic integrity. Some sources have very high integrity. Some have a marginal integrity but do convey at times useful news.

News sources which we feel have no integrity at all and have been proven to be biased by the real axis of evil do not appear here at all except on occasion when an unignorable opportunity appears to present a "lack of integrity" case in point. I am thinking here of the malodorous ilk containing, for example, Fox "News" Channel.

I should say the following so that can be courteous to save biased and ignorant (ignore-ant) folk what to them would be a waste of their time. For the most part I put links here to INFORM. Having just watched both major party conventions on TV, people need to be informed, but, the qualities of ignorance and uneducated but rather habituated bias, pose a significant obstacle to accepting the INFORMation long enough to process it to the second level then use it or reject it or both.

Here is the time saving part. Take the Bush Administration and anybody or any group they touched. The links found are not likely to put that group in a favorable light. Not because of ignorance and bias on my part, but rather because of the mass of damning evidence. So, if you cannot read the truth without rejecting it because you do not trust yourself to process any data whatever and accept it or reject it based on its merits, then this page is going to really be a disappointment to you.

For sites requiring a registration, You should do that without fear. We have of course visited all these sites before we add them and whether we agree with their general view we do not think they will abuse your registration. You can even accept their newsletters etc. Somewhat in that regard however, our crawler will soon be visiting all these sites looking for articles of high interest and presenting links to them by subject in a link digest form.

The first group presented represent latest additions whom we have not slotted yet into a category.

I found Bart Smookler's book, Living Posthumously in the Seniors Center Shop in my town, where I find most my paper media books. I liked Bart right off. Characteristically, I checked to see if he had a good web site. I got more, way more than I bargained for. And I like him more than ever.
americanthinker.com I am including this site because I might find I like it after a while but, in lieu of a SLO it could go either way. It could end up being a poster child for archaic. Who would call a site "american thinker?" A humorist might be reaching the oxymoronic sense. The dreamer may have had pinto beans for supper and Cotton Mather for dream dessert. Any number of possibilities while awaiting the SLO. Until then you might consider telling what you think and whether what you think is based on a SLO of your own.
The Ethical Spectacle This site might a little to quick to reach its conclusions sometimes but it has a wealth of valuable content that is sometimes well written.
truthout.org Breadth, some depth, readability in general is good, often some very good writers and in general I find they live up to their name.
http://www.politicalaffairs.net Political Affairs This is one of the best organized sites I have found. Breadth, depth, logic, interests, value of values. I was a little surprised to find it is publicly Marxist, but hey after putting up the ignorance, bias blurb at the top of this page, I cannot let myself refuse to list it here. Before you comment to me, just take a cruise into their waters and then let me know if the result is shipwreck or retrofit.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com Huffington Post I resisted this site for a long time. I must confess I resisted for the excuse I preach against. When I first saw and heard Ariana I jumped to the concussion she was a rich twit dallying with playing a journalist and could because she had the money. The following is a heartfelt, brainfelt compliment. In her own way she is as bright as Katrina vanden Heuvel, editor of The Nation.

More about our content and policy
Included in our list here are media watchdog sites, political sites, business news sites, science and information sites and, to a smaller degree, "entertainment" sites.

Speaking of entertainment, we lean toward what we have coined as Op-Fic, Opinion Fiction, which somewhat parallels Op-Ed, Opinion Editorials. These, by content and context, are obviously fictional presentations which aim to guide a reader to allegorical insights relative to their subject. Of course, Op-Fic is also just plain fun to read and write and reach usually toward general trends and realities rather than getting lost in the trees of details.

Some of the sites we link to point readers to various newspapers around the world and some of the links are directly to newspapers. Some of these papers such as The Washington Post and The New York times require registration to fetch the subsurface articles. We leave that choice to the reader. We just take you to the portals.

Our scroller on the home page presents news which we daily cull from the sources on this page.

What we are are not is partisan. What we are is after truth and reason. If it seems that we have partisan leanings in our presentation, it is because the direction we are leaning toward may be presenting more truth and reason.

Truth and reason result in a tendency to be more concerned about the planet we are riding on and the occupants of transport without regard to the location of their seat on the bus.

If you have link suggestions, questions or comment, you may direct them to news at seestheday dot com. That statement is code to thwart email address crawlers so replace the " at " with an at sign and the " dot " with a period.

NEWS AGGREGATORS - We are experimenting with news software based aggregators. We do not yet feel that news aggregators give us a personal, individual look at the items being aggregated. Until that happens, we will continue to do it manually.
